In the late ‘60s through mid ‘70s Japanese manufacturers were capitalizing on sales in virtually all segments of the U.S. dirt bike market. Though Trials riding was a niche, dominated by Spanish brands like Bultaco and Montessa, it was a niche amongst a booming dirt bike market.

Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki and Kawasaki all had 250 Trials bike offerings but Yamaha expanded their line up with a 175 an an (ultra cool) 80cc model, featured here. Credit to Yamaha for attempting to cultivate young rider interest in the sport of Trials by offering this incredibly designed and engineered 80cc junior sized model.

This bike was part of a collection in California that I acquired in early 2023 that was about 90% restored and I finished. It has not had fluids nor been started since the restoration was completed.
