Triumph T100 Daytona 500 Dark Cherry & Ice White 1972 // Patina
This is a numbers matching, highly original, beautifully kept bike with just the right patina and no rust. Recent service at Morrie’s Place included carb rebuild + balancing and speedometer rebuild (because of this, actual mileage is unknown). As depicted in the pictures there are virtually no major imperfections with the exception of the right side muffler which has a bit of discoloration on the chrome. I considered replacing the muffler but, for now, have decided it matches the hue of the rest of the bike too well to change.
It starts on the third or fourth kick when cold, idles, revs, runs great and doesn’t smoke. Clutch and shifting is excellent and the drum brakes are as good as they get (which isn’t that great). There is some oil seepage but no more than any of the vintage Triumphs I’ve previously owned. Tires are in great condition and relatively fresh, his bike is a joy to ride - remember it is a right side shift and kickstart only.
The Triumph Daytona was named because of Triumph’s success at the Daytona 200, winning the race in 1966 and again in 1967. The Daytona had twin Amal concentric carburetors, higher compression and a wilder set of cams than the standard 500s.
I have owned a number of 650 Bonnevilles and have come to prefer the 500 Daytona with its quicker revving motor, lighter weight and more nimble handling.
