SOLD // Honda CR250M Elsinore 1976 Red

In the mid-1970s the sport of Motocross was blowing up in the U.S. Tracks were plentiful, ridership was growing exponentially and the manufacturers (OEMs) and aftermarket shops were updating new models and products with breakthrough technology on an annual basis. Back then technology could be tried on “works” bikes, one-off or very limited prototype builds, that would be raced in the AMA/Trans AMA/GP events and the designs that showed promise would show up on the next model run of bikes (or pipes/frames/suspension components).

I find the Motocross bikes from this era among the most beautiful of all time and loved the experimentation with engine configuration, frame design, suspension solutions and even wheel sizes.

Honda really exploded the American market with its first Elsinore models which made cutting edge performance accessible in a reliable (relatively) package at a VERY affordable price.

The Elsinore models from 1973 woke up the rest of the industry, particularly Yamaha, and it became an annual arms race of product superiority in the 125, 250 and 500 classes.

Honda followed the initial silver/green low-pipe Elsinore models with brilliant red machines with increased suspension travel and a high mounted pipe (first on the 250).

This second generation 250 is a rare and beautiful 1976 CR250M Elsinore in amazing condition. It is immaculate without a spec of dirt on the machine.

Highlight features include: shorty aluminum brake and clutch levers, DID aluminum rims in beautiful condition with no dents, a new front number plate, front fender mud flap still in tact, exhaust pipe/expansion chamber with NO DENTS, Magnesium side cases, Kehin carburetor, Fox Racing rear shocks - slanted forward with a braced swing arm mounting and a FMF Power Core silencer. The Trellborg tires look good for display but are due for a change if the bike is to be ridden seriously.

This bike starts, idles, revs and runs beautifully and shifts through all the gears with a perfectly adjusted clutch.
